Cool Green World is working with with the International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros...
By Marjorie Burfitt & Jody Marriott
Jody Marriott, Cool Green world’s president, has been working closely with the International
Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros (ISPMB) to help facilitate the rescue of wild horse herds that would otherwise have gone to slaughter. Jody was honored to accept
the position of vice-president to ISPMB.
Happy to report that both of the originally relocated wild mustang herds (from White Sands, NM, and from Gila Bend, AZ) are faring very well. They were successfully relocated to
sanctuary in South Dakota, where they will remain forever together as intact wild herds.
Also a third herd was rescued and relocated from Nevada and has been gifted by ISPMB to the Native American people of the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota. The herd now
roams free with buffalo on thousands of pristine acres of tribal land where an ecotourism project is underway.
Several other herds are in line to be rescued and relocated by ISPMB as soon as it is financially possible for the organization, and partnerships with other Native American Reservations
are being forged.
Wonderful news – a private foundation, introduced to the wild mustang project by actress Stefanie Powers, visited the site and is providing initial seed funding for the creation
of the ISPMB Sun-Ka-Wa-Kan Heritage Center where visitors will come to learn about wild horses, view the free-roaming herds, interact with other rescued mustangs, and experience the
area’s Native American Lakota culture, including the close connection with wild horses.
